Open Position: Kitchen Support/Shopper and Cooking Assistance
Responsibilities– Flexible Schedule will include but is not be limited to opening for breakfast. Support & Shopper duties will include cooking responsibilities with the primary focus of serving / preparing breakfast daily and shopping for F3 Café. The ideal candidate will have an insured vehicle; be willing pick up food donations and supplies on a weekly basis.
Assistant Cooks must be able to assist in preparing delicious meals according to menu approved by F3 Manager. The ideal candidate will cook dishes that will delight our customers with great taste, contain great nutritional value, and be served in a timely manner.
Assistant Cooks must be able to follow instructions such as from set recipes but also be intuitive and creative in cooking; delivering well-prepared meals. They must be deft in moving around the kitchen and apt in multi-tasking. Experience in using various ingredients and cooking techniques is also important.
The goal is to always deliver meals that are portion controlled, well thought out, appealing to sight, and tasteful.
Responsibilities Includes but are not limited to the following;
- Set up/maintain workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
- Assist in preparing ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)
- Cook food in various utensils or grillers
- Check food while cooking to stir or turn
- Assist in ensuring a great presentation by dressing dishes before they are served
- Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen, wash and put away all dishes
- Assist in ensuring all food and other items are stored properly and comply with health and food safety standards and regulations (ServSafe Requirements)
- Check quality of ingredients, inspect the freshness of refrigerated and shelved food items
- Assist in monitoring stock and inform F3 Manager or Skilled Cook when there are shortages and assist in shopping and picking up donations from various locations around the cityapproved by F3 Manager
Shop for F3 Café utilizing approved Menu items and shopping list approved by F3 Manager
Requirements
- A teachable individual that is willing and able to become a more skilled cook.
- Open and teachable in learning how to use cutting tools, cookware and bakeware
- Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.)
- Ability to follow all sanitation procedures (ServSafe Level 1 Certified or will become certified within 30-45 days of hire date.)
- Ability to work in a team
- Participate in staff meetings scheduled by F3 Manager or Overseer of The Embassy/Senior Pastor of HCC
- Conduct yourselves in a professional manner as a representative of The Embassy/HCC
- Work entire shift unless otherwise stated and approved by F3 Manager
- Complete timesheets and turn in on time to F3 Manager
- Support Themed Days and Special Activities that may be inside of or outside of your normal work hours
- Always help to maintain a clean and well-organized Kitchen
- Very good communication skills (Must have working email, utilize text messaging and or communicate via telephone in a timely manner. Must have patience in dealing with the men we serve as well as the staff if Genesis.
- Excellent physical condition and stamina, able to shop, lift up to 50 pounds and deliver food items to F3 cafe
- High school diploma or equivalent; Diploma from a culinary school will be an advantage (Open to discussion)
